acanthite

Acanthite

Acanthite, Magnet Mine, Tasmania

Acanthite is the stable form of Ag2S, a silver sulphide, at temperatures below 177°C. Many reports in the literature of argentite are actually acanthite after argentite. Acanthite crystals are somewhat rare in silver-lead deposits.
